Flushing Out the Competition: Plumbing Company Gets Social with New Media Strategy

By: Brian Garcia, WTL
The plumbing company "Clogged & Clear Plumbing" has been on a mission to up their social media game and flush out the competition. However, their new strategy of sharing pictures of dirty jobs and tagging the owners in the posts has left many homeowners feeling, well, flushed.
"We wanted to show our customers the kind of work we do every day and what sets us apart from the competition," said the spokesperson for Clogged & Clear Plumbing. "We thought it would be a fun and creative way to engage with our followers."
But what they thought would be a fun way to showcase their work, quickly turned into a social media nightmare. Homeowners were horrified to see pictures of their clogged toilets and backed-up sinks being shared on the company's social media pages, and tagged with their names. They couldn't help but feel like they were being publicly shamed for having dirty plumbing.
"I was mortified," said one homeowner who was tagged in one of the posts. "I had no idea they were going to share a picture of my clogged drain on social media. I thought they were just coming to fix it, not post it for the world to see."
Despite the backlash, Clogged & Clear Plumbing is sticking to their social media strategy. "We're just trying to be creative and have a little fun," said the spokesperson. "Plus, it's a great way to show our followers the kind of work we do every day."
However, homeowners are not amused. They're calling for the plumbing company to flush their social media strategy down the drain and stick to fixing pipes, not posting pictures of them on social media.
In the end, it seems like Clogged & Clear Plumbing may have to go back to the drawing board and come up with a new social media strategy that doesn't leave their customers feeling flushed.
