The members of the notorious criminal organization "La Mafia" were left scratching their heads in confusion today after discovering that their trusted associate, Jimmy "The Rat" Rodriguez, had been working as an informant for the FBI for the past six months.
"Jimmy was like a brother to us," said one member of the organization, who wished to remain anonymous. "He was always there for us, looking out for us. We never would have thought he'd turn out to be a snitch."
Indeed, many members of La Mafia had grown close to Rodriguez over the years, relying on him for his street smarts and his ability to get things done. His nickname, "The Rat," had always been seen as an endearing term of affection, a nod to his tenacity and his ability to slip in and out of tight spots unnoticed.
"He was like a little brother to me," said another member of the organization. "I always thought he had our backs, no matter what."
But it seems that Rodriguez had a secret agenda all along. According to sources within the FBI, he had been working as an informant for months, gathering intel on the inner workings of La Mafia and helping the authorities to build a case against them.
"He was a natural at it," said one FBI agent. "He knew how to blend in, how to work his way up the ranks. He was the perfect mole."
For the members of La Mafia, however, the news was a devastating blow. They had trusted Rodriguez implicitly, never suspecting that he might be working against them.
"We're still trying to wrap our heads around it," said one member. "How could someone we thought was a brother do this to us?"
Others were more blunt in their assessment of Rodriguez's betrayal.
"Who would have thought that someone named 'The Rat' would turn out to be an actual rat?" quipped one member.
As for Rodriguez, he has reportedly gone into hiding, fearing for his life now that his cover has been blown. But for the members of La Mafia, the damage has already been done.
"He was one of us," said another member. "And now he's gone and betrayed everything we stand for. It's a sad day for La Mafia."
