Local man Jake Johnson is breathing a sigh of relief after surviving what he calls a "horrible fortune cookie prediction" during a recent trip to his favorite Chinese restaurant.
According to Johnson, he had just finished a delicious meal of kung pao chicken and fried rice when his fortune cookie arrived.
"I cracked it open and read the fortune, and I swear to you, I almost fainted," said Johnson.
The fortune read, "Beware the Ides of March."
Panicked, Johnson immediately Googled the phrase, only to discover that the Ides of March was the day on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC.
"I was terrified," said Johnson. "I didn't know if someone was planning to assassinate me or what."
Despite his fears, Johnson managed to make it through the next few days without incident. But on March 15th, he woke up to a flat tire on his car.
"I was sure it was a sign that something terrible was going to happen," he said.
But to Johnson's surprise, the rest of the day went off without a hitch. In fact, he even got a promotion at work.
"It turns out the Ides of March was actually a pretty good day for me," he said, grinning.
Despite surviving the "horrible fortune cookie prediction," Johnson says he's still a bit wary of the next fortune cookie he receives.
"I'm just hoping for something a little less ominous next time," he said. "Maybe something like, 'You will win the lottery' or 'You will meet the love of your life.' That would be nice."
